Patrick Mahomes to have something else named for him following latest Texas Tech gift

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ name is about to be a prevalent part of the Texas Tech football facility. On Thursday, Texas Tech football announced Patrick and wife Brittany had made a $5 million donation to go toward the team’s south end zone and football center project. As a result, the walk-through area of the future Womble Football Center will be named after Patrick Mahomes, who played for the Red Raiders from 2014-16. His name appears elsewhere in the facility, too. Thanks to contributions, Mahomes is named on Texas Tech’s quarterback meeting room and the offensive coordinator’s office. Mahomes has been a public supporter of the college and its athletic programs since then. Earlier this offseason, Mahomes’ personal Gladiator logo was added to the Red Raiders’ football field as part of a new 10-year deal between the school and Adidas.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — On Thursday, Texas Tech University announced that Patrick Mahomes provided the final gift toward a $242 million project.

The donation from the Texas Tech alumnus is for both the South End Zone and Dustin R. Womble Football Center Project. Mahomes spent three seasons in Lubbock.

The university plans to name the soon-to-be-completed walkthrough area in the football center after Mahomes. The Chiefs quarterback will also be recognized as being the namesake for the Texas Tech quarterback meeting room and the offensive coordinator’s office in the new South End Zone Building at Jones AT&T Stadium.

“When we first launched this campaign, Patrick was only a freshman and now it is fitting that we approach the end of the campaign with a gift of his own,” Texas Tech Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt said.

“We couldn’t be prouder to announce this gift from Patrick and Brittany Mahomes. We are so proud of Patrick for all he has accomplished and how he has continually supported Texas Tech on a global scale.”

Despite all of his success, acts like this show that Mahomes still strongly supports his alma mater. He’s been known to use his free weekends to support the Red Raiders in various sports and was inducted into the Texas Tech Hall of Fame and Ring of Honor.

“There isn’t a greater ambassador for Texas Tech Athletics than Patrick Mahomes,” head coach Joey McGuire said.

“He is arguably the best brand in sports, not only for his success on the field but for what he and his family do off it. Since my hiring here at Texas Tech, it’s been evident to me just how much Patrick truly loves this university and football program, and this gift further emphasizes that. On behalf of our entire program, we can’t thank Patrick and Brittany enough for the impact they are making on our student-athletes and the future of Texas Tech Football.”

Additionally, just last month Mahomes helped partner Texas Tech with Adidas, where the two entities agreed on a 10-year partnership.

The Mahomes donation has pushed the total fundraising efforts even further past the initial goal of $100 million to $115 million.
