Simone Biles had already won ten World Championship gold medals before she entered Rio to compete in the 2016 Olympics. There, her four golf medals made her very famous among the masses. It also made her establish herself as the world’s best gymnast. While there have been slight hiccups in the road, she has never stopped winning, taking her Olympic medal tally to 11, making her the second most decorated gymnast in the history of the competition.
Through these years, not only has she improved herself on the court, but her fashion sense has also evolved into something quite different from the first time she stepped into the limelight. She is now also the face of K18, the hair care brand. Her outfits are red carpets that are always unique and never the same as the previous year. Thus, she is now pretty educated on that subject and voices her opinion regularly on social media.
Recently, she took to her threads account to give a new fashion opinion. She said, “If you willingly wear jeans on a plane, you deserve jail.” This thought probably came to her while flying, as she is rumored to be doing a lot of that because of her Gold Over America tour. It involves her traveling to numerous states with her entourage and organizing a gymnastics show with the themes of strength and resilience. This was done initially by her after the Tokyo Olympics. The show received huge praise, and its return was expected. Now, she’s doing just that.
The comments on her post went from argumentative to occasionally hilarious. Some people were recommending other types of attire that they could wear on a plane. Others, however, were not very receptive to her thoughts and provided her with backlash. Obviously, this is not the first time she has received criticism over the choice of her clothes after the Paris Olympics.
Simone Biles attended Jonathan Owen’s NFL debut with the Chicago Bears on the 17th of August. However, she wore his former team’s Green Bay Packers jacket. Both these teams share a historic and intense rivalry and didn’t appreciate this decision of hers. She was met with heavy trolling, with some comically suggesting to strip her of her Olympic medals. Simone put out a response to all this on her thread’s account, saying, “The way I be wanting to clap back sooo bad but I gotta stay as classy as possible.”
Now, this new post on threads is also attracting the same level of traction. While she isn’t getting anywhere near the same hate, some comments did not like the topic.
Fans polarized on their reaction to Simone Biles’ plane attire comment
One user said, “Is it because you prefer tights or sweat pants like I do?” The main point here is that sweatpants are a lot more comfortable than jeans. Wearing jeans in a 3 or 4 hour journey becomes tedious for the passengers. This is also possibly the reason why Simone Biles put out the post. Someone then commented about supporting her quest for comfort. “Right. Cz we cute and comfy all 2024. “ they wrote. Another user completely echoed her support for Simone’s statement, saying, “Nahh sweatpants or leggings all day. I need to be comfortable.” One comment was in disbelief of Simone’s statement:“WHAT???? This can’t be real!”
Others, however, did not like her post. They were offended by the fact that Simone Biles was telling them what to wear. “With the greatest respect ma’am…..I’ll wear what I damn please. I just hope people who take their shoes off on board are in front of the jeans wearers in the jail queue,” wrote one of them. Another user also felt offended by her remarks as they said, “HUMBLE YOURSELF.”. There was another comment. While it seemed like they opposed her thought too, they did it in a hilarious manner, saying, “Hey I wear jeans on a plane and on a train and on a boat and with a goat wear jeans here and there. I wear jeans anywhere.” Safe to say, the post attracted a lively debate in the comments. What are your thoughts? Do you agree with Simone Biles here? Or do the critics have a point?
