Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles made sure the spotlight was on Rebeca Andrade as the three stood on the podium following the floor exercise in the 2024 Summer Olympics.

The American pair bowed as the Brazilian gymnast celebrated her gold medal victory.

Andrade narrowly edged out Biles for first place with just 0.033 points separating the two.

Monday’s triumph must have felt cathartic on multiple levels.

The 25-year-old was the silver medalist behind Biles in both the individual all-around and the vault. Besting one of the greatest gymnasts in history at least once in the Summer Games is something she’ll be able to savor forever.

Andrade has suffered three separate ACL tears across her career, the last of which limited her participation in the Tokyo Games. Brazil was unable to qualify as a team, though Andrade did taste individual success.

This time, she was able to maximize her time in the Summer Olympics, including helping Brazil to bronze in team all-around.

No gymnast garnered more attention than Biles, for obvious reasons. The 2024 Paris Games were also a great showcase for Andrade, though, as she became the most decorated athlete ever from her country.
