The birth mother of seven-time Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles is coming forward in what they say is an attempt to reconnect with the athlete.

Shanon Biles, the gymnast’s biological mother, 52, recently expressed her longing to speak to her daughter. Her biological father, Kevin Clemons, has also expressed the shared pain of losing his daughter, she said.

Shanon Biles shared her deep regret in an emotional interview with the Daily Mail on Aug. 13.

“We both want to see her,” Biles said, revealing that Simone Biles’ biological father has also been trying to reach out. “He says, ‘If you talk to Simone, give her my number. I’d love to talk to her.’ But I can’t even talk to her.”

Shanon Biles had given up Simone Biles and her sister, Adria, and the two ended up together in foster houses after their mother began abusing drugs. Eventually, their grandfather and grandmother, Ron and Nellie Biles, finally decided to adopt the girls when they were just toddlers and raised them in Houston, Texas.

Since then, Simone Biles has said she considers her grandparents as her parents, and that they’ve been her support system ever since.

In fact, her adoptive mother had to sell her businesses to support the Olympian’s training back then.

Now, Shannon Biles is pleading for a relationship with the iconic gymnast.

“I want to see my kids” she told the Daily Mail. “I would like to make amends with Simone personally — I’m just waiting for her and [her younger sister] Adria.”

“I speak to Adria more than I speak to Simone,” she said. “I would just ask her to forgive me. Can we move forward? Don’t judge me on my past. Let’s move forward.”

“I’m waiting for the opportunity but I’m waiting on her to be able to come to me. Let’s sit down. I just have to be patient,” she added.

Biles said she followed the summer Olympics from her home in Columbus, Ohio, and watched her daughter take home three gold medals and a silver medal to increase her total count to 11. She said she even threw a party, and gathered friends and neighbors to watch the games.

Despite the pride she feels about her daughter’s massive achievements, she said the two are not close and currently don’t have direct communication with each other.

“What I hear about Simone I hear through my dad. I speak to my dad all the time. We’re good now. It was just his birthday, and I called to wish him happy birthday,” Shanon Biles said. “I ask him about Simone, and he keeps me posted.”

While it’s unknown how Simone Biles views her biological mother, the Associated Press reported back in 2015 that she was quick to correct anyone who called Shanon Biles her mother.

Shanon Biles told the Daily Mail that she’s clean and sober these days and works as a cashier at Save A Lot, a discount grocery store.

Still filled with regret, she wishes she was present for the gymnast’s huge moments of her life, including when she married her husband, Bears safety Johnathan Owens. But nonetheless, she expressed how proud she is of the gymnast.

“I do have a direct number, but I won’t use it,” she shared. “I want her to reach out to me. She’s 27 now. She’s married. I would have liked to have been a part of that, but I just have to wait for her. You can’t push anybody.”
