To be clear, Shaq might be biased when he has to pick between Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark for the WNBA’s Rookie of the Year

I f for some reason we don’t consider the recent level increase from Caitlin Clark, especially her record-breaking performanceon Wednesday night. Then what Shaquille O’Neal just said about Angel Reese is completely understandable, the man does have a soft spot for the

Chicago Sky rookie. It’s true, Angel Reese is one of the leading players who is being considered to win this season’s Rookie of the Year Award. But the season is not over yet and Clark does seem to be picking up steam. Regardless of how this ends, taking Shaq seriously with his recent statement becomes difficult once you realize he is definitely biased.

Shaq picks Reese over Clark. What a shocker!

During a recent appearance on SportsCenter, Shaquille O’Neal spoke about the WNBA’s two rookies who are leading the charge right now. He picked a side but he also acknowledged Caitlin Clark and her comparison to Stephen Curry. This is what the big man said during the interview: “I’m not just saying this because she went to LSU, I think she’s definitely leading in the Rookie of the Year race. I give the vote to Angel. Caitlin is a fabulous player, the female Steph Curry. They have done a lot for the game. … Caitlin and Angel, because of social media and all the media outlets, they really brought the game where it should’ve been 10 years ago.”

Watching these two rookies thrive during their debut season does bring up some great memories from the ‘1980s, when another two rookies took the NBA by storm. Comparisons of the Reese vs Clark rivalry are eerily similar to the rivalry between Magic Johnson and Lary Bird. The more you analyze both rivalries, the more similarities you will find. It’s almost as if the WNBA was about to enter a similar space in which the league could really take off. If this happens, both Clark and Reese will be considered the heroes of this women’s basketball boom that seems to be on the horizon.
