Emma Watson Feels Guilty About ‘Harry Potter’ Success, Shines Light on Negative Side of Fame: “Somebody else would have enjoyed this more than I did”

Emma Watson is one of the most adored celebrities in the world who rose to fame with her role as Hermione Granger. The actress played the role so flawlessly that everyone from the early 2000s became a fan of hers and made her their celebrity crush. As a result, she became immensely popular, and it was difficult for people not to recognize her in public. The  Harry Potter  film series is one of the best film series collecting $7.7 billion worldwide, and it has captured the hearts of its audiences around the globe, and even in 2023 people tend to watch the film and enjoy it. The film was a massive success which brought massive stardom to its young cast members. While most of them enjoy being the center of attention, some struggle to suffer from it. As appealing as it sounds to live a luxurious life, getting no privacy in public can be a major problem, and so was the case for  The Circle  actress.

During an interview with British Vogue, Emma Watson shared how she was only nine years old when she rose to stardom, and ever since she had been struggling to cope with her new life. The 33 years old actress explained how she felt guilty for taking therapy, and how someone else would have loved to have her fame, yet here she is struggling to enjoy her stardom.

“I’ve sat in therapy and felt really guilty about it. I’m like, why me? Somebody else would have enjoyed and wanted this aspect of it more than I did. And I’ve struggled a lot with the guilt around that. I’m like, I should be enjoying this a lot more, I should be more excited and I’m actually really struggling.”

In a separate interview with Vanity Fair,  The Beauty, and the Beast  actress shared that she enjoyed acting, but movie premieres would make her nervous and often felt the life of stardom was not meant for her.

“I’ve been doing this since I was 10 or 11, and I’ve often thought, I’m so wrong for this job because I’m too serious; I’m a pain in the a**; I’m difficult; I don’t fit.”

The actress also added she overcame her fear by reminding herself of her roots and real identity which immensely helped her in overcoming her struggle with stardom.

“I am someone’s daughter. I am my mother’s daughter, I am my father’s daughter, I am a sister. I belong to a family. I come from a place, I have roots. There’s a whole big existence and identity that I have that’s really important and weighted and solid, that has nothing to do with any of that.”

While the actress has overcome her fear, she is enjoying her life as an activist. Even though she got over her fear of stardom, she tends to live a more private life than being surrounded by her fans asking for pictures and autographs.

While talking to E! News, Emma Watson shares that the opportunity she, and her co-stars, Daniel Radcliffe, and Rupert Grint received was magical in itself. She stated how being cast in such a massive franchise put them in the limelight, which other actors or actresses dream of having themselves.

While she shared the downsides of being so famous, and how people are now more interested in her life which forces her to take steps to maintain her privacy and understand she is not the fictional character from the series.

“It’s one of the things that I struggle with, because the three of us—Dan, Rupert, and I—were kids when we got cast in this fairy-tale series, and what happened to us was kind of a fantasy story in itself. Outside of the movies.”

“So the story of my life has been of public interest, which is why I’ve been so passionate about having a private identity. When I step into a character, people have to be able to suspend their disbelief; they have to be able to divorce me from that girl.”

Emma Watson’s steps are understandable as she has been put into the limelight from a very young age. While the actress overcame her fear of being in front of her fans, it is uncommon to hear that some actors would rather be anonymous so they can lead a private life.
