Angel Reese, Nneka Ogwumike and Dearica Hamby helped the WNBA All-Stars defeat the US Women’s Olympic team 117-109 at the All-Star Weekend on Saturday. While the game was closely contested and saw the two teams go back and forth at Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona, Ogwumike and Hamby ended up in a lighthearted exchange on X a few days later.

Things started with Reese posting an Instagram picture from the press conference alongside Hamby. In the comments section, Hamby responded, calling Angel Reese “Mini 5” and herself “Mama 5” in reference to their friendship.

In response, a social media user screenshotted the post along with Hamby’s comment. They then tagged Ogwumike and jokingly told her to fight back against Hamby, who plays for the Los Angeles Sparks.

Ogwumike then shared a screenshot of her and Angel Reese on the bench laughing together during the All-Star Game. Hamby then responded by sharing a screenshot of Angel Reese referring to her as “Momma D.”

Ogwumike replied, telling Hamby, who will be competing for Team USA as part of the 3×3 team, that she should go to bed.

“She’s fearless” – Nneka Ogwumike praised Angel Reese following Storm-Sky clash leading up to WNBA All-Star Game

Angel Reese has been making waves throughout her rookie year, more so leading up to her first WNBA All-Star Game appearance. In the 2024-25 season, Reese broke the WNBA’s longstanding double-double record, set by Candace Parker during the 2009 and 2010 seasons.

In early July, after an on-court battle between Reese-led Chicago Sky and Ogwumike’s Seattle Storm, the nine-time All-Star praised Reese for her fearlessness.

The pair were fresh off back-to-back games against one another, with Reese and the Sky picking up an 88-84 win on July 5, and Ogwumike and the Storm picking up an 84-71 win on July 7.

While speaking to the media, Ogwumike had good things to say about the rookie standout:

“She’s fearless. One thing about her about is that she has an unwavering confidence. She’s fearless, she’s relentless, when it comes to how she plays. You can teach technique, you can talk about how certain things look and what people should expect when it comes to working on certain skills.

“At the end of the day, you can have a skillful person, but if they’re not relentless each time, there’s only so far that that skill can take you.”While Angel Reese and Nneka Ogwumike will have a month off for the WNBA’s Olympic break, Dearica Hamby is preparing to suit up for Team USA. The team’s first 3×3 game will take place on July 30 against Germany, with Hamby looking to win her first Olympic gold medal.
