Bronny James shares his biggest anticipation about teaming up with his father, LeBron James (Image credit: IMAGN)
LA Lakers rookie guard Bronny James recently touched on his biggest anticipation regarding teaming up with his father, Lakers superstar forward LeBron James. According to Bronny, he is most looking forward to regularly competing against LeBron during LA’s practices next season.
Bronny, the No. 55 pick in the 2024 NBA draft, had a rocky start to this year’s NBA Summer Leagues. He struggled offensively during his first four California Classic and NBA 2K25 Summer League games. However, he consistently showed flashes on the defensive end.
While Bronny isn’t projected to play a prominent role for the Lakers next season, he will make history just by suiting up alongside his father. During a Summer League interview on Wednesday, he was asked what he is “looking forward to the most” about the unprecedented experience.
Perhaps to the surprise of some, Bronny highlighted his excitement for him and LeBron to “go against each other in practice.”
LeBron is set to enter his NBA record-tying 22nd campaign next season. He turns 40 in December, well past the age most players retire. Nonetheless, the four-time MVP is still playing at an elite level, coming off his record-extending 20th All-NBA selection.
So, time will tell if Bronny, who turns 20 in October, can give his old man a run for his money next season.
Bronny James breaks out of offensive slump in fifth NBA Summer League game
While Bronny James struggled offensively to start this year’s NBA Summer Leagues, he broke out of his slump on Wednesday.
James tallied 12 points on 5-for-11 (45.5%) shooting and 2-for-5 (40.0%) shooting from 3 as LA hung on for an 87-86 victory over the Atlanta Hawks. The win marked the Lakers’ first after dropping their first five games.
Entering the contest, James was averaging only 4.3 points per game on 22.6% shooting over four appearances. Meanwhile, he was 0-for-15 (0.0%) from deep. So, naturally, the 19-year-old prospect appeared relieved to see his shots finally start to fall.
“Just trying to forget about all the shots I missed, forget about all the games we lost,” James said postgame. “Just come out and play my game and try to do my best every time I come on the court. That’s what I did tonight, and it ended up well.”
James will look to continue his improved offensive play and lead the Lakers to another Summer League victory during Thursday’s matchup against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
