Caitlin Clark mocking Julie Vanloo’s flopping gets called out by DiJonai Carrington as double standards (Image Credit: Caitlin Clark, Julie Vanloo and DiJoinai Carrington’s Instagram)
Tonight’s WNBA matchup against the Washington Mystics didn’t go the way Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever envisioned.
Tensions also flared up from both ball clubs when Clark shoved Mystics’ Julie Vanloo as she tried to break free to be available for the pass. Additionally, the Fever rookie was seen mocking Vanloo’s flopping which Connecticut Sun’s DiJoinai Carrington called out on social media.
Clark started to mock Vanloo when the two were having a conversation during the stoppage of play. In that instance, the referees were looking over the incident. Vanloo argued that she felt a hit to the chin during the first contact which then resulted in more pushing from the rookie’s end.
Meanwhile, Carrington was not fond of Clark mocking Vanloo as she argued on X that double standards are in place.
She argued that the response to what Fever’s Clark did wasn’t as strong as when the Sun guard did it towards the rookie.
“But I’m a racist, jealous, coon, monkey, hating a** b***h who needs to go back to Africa when I do it huh?” Carrington asked. “Please. Like I said, this is basketball.”

Fan reception can be brutal as they continuously swarm a social media platform and send out harsh comments in the process. There’s a reason why there are some professional athletes who prefer to steer clear of open platforms such as X.
It gets even worse when someone like DiJonai Carrington receives racial slurs and hateful remarks her way.
Caitlin Clark talked about the missed opportunity for a comeback victory against the Washington Mystics
After the Fever’s disappointing 80-84 loss to Washington, Caitlin Clark highlighted a key moment in the game, around the 4:25 mark in the third quarter. The Mystics’ challenge on the blocking foul assessed to Stefanie Dolson was ruled successful, which resulted in a momentum shift that iced the game.
In her postgame comments, Clark pointed out the growing pains of the team and the need to handle opposing runs better, as per ClutchPoints’ Matthew Byrne.
“We have to find a way to be able to move on from that,” Clark said. “Yeah, we didn’t get a call but we need to stop right now … like we weren’t out of it by any means and then we let it blown to a 20-plus game. It is what it is. … Whatever they see on the videos is what they’re going to call, but I believe we could have responded a little better.”
After the successful challenge, Washington were effective in their 10-0 run and two-time WNBA All-Star Aliyah Boston received her fifth foul for the game.
Caitlin Clark still finished with a double-double performance of 29 points (50.0% shooting, including 55.6% from 3-point range) and 13 assists. She also added 5 rebounds, 5 steals and 3 blocks in her impressive stat line from tonight.
