Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever traveled to Phoenix on Sunday to play their first matchup against Diana Taurasi and the Mercury. Following the game, it’s been reported that ESPN’s broadcast of the matchup was the most viewed game of Taurasi’s 20-year career.

According to TV logs, the game averaged 1.9 million viewers and peaked at 2.7 million viewers, per Vanshay Murdock on X. It’s the second most watched game of the season behind the Fever’s recent matchup against Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky on June 16th, which brought in over 3 million viewers.

The Fever came away with the 88-82 victory over the Mercury on June 30th, securing their first win against a team above .500 in the 2024 season. Clark finished the game with 15 points, 12 assists, and nine rebounds, while Taurasi posted 19 points and three rebounds.

Taurasi has been widely considered one of the best WNBA players for years, but Clark’s influence is unprecedented.

The rookie has aided the Fever in earning the top spot in terms of most-watched teams through various broadcast networks this season. She’s now helped Taurasi attain her WNBA record with 2.7 million viewers tuning into the game.

Clark and the Fever are bound to draw another large audience for their next contest, playing on the road against Las Vegas on Tuesday. Their matchup at 9:30 p.m. ET in Sin City was moved to T-Mobile Arena since demand for tickets was so high. The rookie out of Iowa has clearly been a box office player for the WNBA.
